Several studies from all over the world supports that the toxicity of anise seed is a very powerful substance to fight harmful organisms.
Researchers at The University of Mississippi’s School of Pharmacy studied various plant extracts for their resistance to fungus and concluded that anise seed was the best at fighting both fungal and microbial activity.
Croatia’s University of Zagreb conducted a study on anise and came to a similar conclusions. They put anise extract up against seven strains of yeast and four strains of fungus in vitro experiments. They concluded that anise was very successful at inhibiting both fungus and yeast progress.
Another study was done by Iraq’s University of Mosul, where they tested essential oils for activity against several harmful strains of bacteria, including staph, e. coli, and salmonella. The anise seed essential oil had the highest resistance to bacteria.
